DAY 2: No need to lower the ceiling to accommodate recessed lighting. We are on the top floor and I promised the contractor there was attic space above. I did not promise there was access to the attic space.
There is, but it is a very tiny cubbyhole door right above the kitchen. Very tiny. The smallest guy on the crew said he could get in there. (This is the first issue that falls under the category of "I don't want to know.")
