Poached pears

Ripe Bartlett pears...

Peeled, cut in half and cored.

Put them in a pot of red wine, with a splash of orange juice and a cinnamon stick.

Simmer very slowly for about an hour...

Until they look like this.

Remove pears carefully (they're very soft now) and boil down wine until a thick syrup.

Pour the wine over the pears, cover and refrigerate for a day.

Now slice the pear all nicely and put on plate with sauce.

Serve with a chunk of Maytag blue cheese. Dessert!
